Jason Sonners, DC, PhD, FMHC

Dr. Jason Sonners is the founder of NJ HBOT, PA HBOT, and HBOT USA and has nearly 20 years of experience in the field of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. A Certified Hyperbaric and functional medicine Practitioner, researcher, and educator, he integrates hyperbaric oxygen therapy with nutrition, exercise physiology, detoxification strategies, and comprehensive functional health approaches to support complex clinical cases.
Dr. Sonners earned his Doctor of Chiropractic and holds advanced diplomate certifications in clinical nutrition (DCBCN) and applied kinesiology (DIBAK). He also completed his PhD in Molecular Biology with a concentration in regenerative medicine at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, where his research focused on hyperbaric oxygen mechanisms and applications.
He has authored 5 books including the Amazon best-selling book Oxygen Under Pressure and co-author of the professional textbook The Art and Science of Hyperbaric Medicine. Dr. Sonners lectures internationally on hyperbaric medicine and serves on the board and faculty of the International Hyperbaric Association (IHA) and the International Board of Undersea Medicine (IBUM), where he helps train and certify clinicians and hyperbaric technicians worldwide.
Dr. Sonners and his wife, Dr. Melissa Sonners, co-own Core Therapies Family Wellness Center, a multidisciplinary clinic in Northern New Jersey. Through HBOT USA, he works to expand patient access to hyperbaric medicine by helping practitioners safely integrate hyperbaric technology while advancing best practices in protocols, education, and safety standards.

About the Norwood Lectureship
The Norwood Lectureship pays tribute to O’Tar Norwood, MD, an Oklahoma physician who had a long and successful career in dermatology. At the time of writing his first book on Hair Transplant Surgery in 1973, he was Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, USA.
Amongst other things he was a Founding Member of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and with Dr. Dow Stough he was instrumental in gathering like-minded doctors in 1992 to form the ISHRS. O’Tar was a restless thinker who brought together people and ideas to explain the MPHL process. His letters and communications were so numerous that he started a magazine called the Hair Transplant Forum International. It grew very quickly and became so popular that everyone wanted to read it and contribute articles.
Soon after, O’Tar donated the magazine to the ISHRS. Its descendant is the ever-popular Forum we read today. O’Tar continued to publish and teach at our conferences for many years. His name is etched in our history. Those who knew O’Tar fondly remember the informal moments after lectures where his wit and joy for life were wonderful to share.
